On Tuesday, March 12, at 9:30 a.m. in the Shewmaker Center for Workforce Technologies on the Bentonville campus, Athletic Director Brooke Brewer will be announcing NWACC’s latest sport that has been added to the athletic department.

There has been speculation from students, staff, and even some community members as to what the next sport that NWACC will tackle, and no the pun was not intended. NWACC already boasts a variety of sports, from cross country to esports competition, and even some cycling clubs and some intramural activities for the students such as football and basketball.

Some students were kind enough to take the Eagle View’s survey and provide us with some context as to what some of the student body wants, or even expects from this announcement. Some of the most popular answers included golf, basketball, and football.

NWACC students Isaish Vining and Joshua Rudd suggested that the college add “ping pong” or table tennis to their sports activities and competitions. “Of course, there’s also other sports, but it might be good to see more of that (table tennis) than the more general sports,” Rudd said in the interview below

Some of the student body is gravitating toward some of the lesser-known or participated-in activities, such as tennis, as student Jackson Hodge suggested in the video, with that approach coming with various benefits.

Choosing to stick with the “unproven” sports commodities might be the way that the college approaches sports and athletics, with the goal of eventually getting to the more well-known and played sports.

Brewer insists that the department is almost complete in building its five-year plan for student athletics at the college and that the team has several things to announce at the event on March 12. The main attraction will be the new sport that the college is investing in.

The student reporters who interviewed the subjects for the video include Alicia Acquistapace, Jasmine Banks, Hayden Bowen, Ixchel Perez, Yun Sanders, and Sarah Sloan.
