Students in Media Writing asked some members of the NWACC campus community about their opinions of Valentine’s Day. Some enjoy the annual celebration; others are not so fond of the day.

Here are a few responses:

Jaelynn Avery, Siloam Springs, nursing major, is in the fond of the day category. For Avery, even if it’s not about sharing the day with a significant other, it can still be good to celebrate with pals.

I like Valentine’s Day, it’s just an excuse to get with your friends.”

Jackie Troncoso of Rogers, a business major, said she likes the holiday.

It is just cute and fun.”

Lucas Metz from Flower Mound, Texas, is studying in the EMT program.

Asked, “What are your thoughts on Valentine’s Day?” Metz replied:

“It’s pretty cool. I’m indifferent. It’s expensive, but it’s pretty cool if you’re in a relationship.”

Noemi Medrano of Springdale is working toward an associate degree in Liberal Arts.

Asked, “What are your thoughts on Valentine’s Day?” Medrano said she can see both viewpoints.

But honestly I think it’s a cute day. You don’t have to be in a romantic relationship. You can spend it with your friends and family. I always see posts about Galentine’s Day. It’s a great way to create more bonds with friends.”

Two other students interviewed provided first names.

Miguel, who lives in Springdale, is a criminology major. He said, “I’ve always been in between; it’s not necessarily a big holiday. It’s kind of nice if you have someone.”

Taylor, who lives in Rogers, is a science major. She said, “I don’t hate it or love it. I don’t necessarily celebrate it; I don’t see it as a holiday.”

Students reporting this information included Dayanti Arechiga, Logan Brown, Liam Gould, Shannon Padilla, Meadow Reaves, and Hannah Swartzell.
